Male Fertility

Fertility of males who sustained a Spinal Cord Injury

Depending on the injury level and the severity of the injury, males who sustained a spinal cord injury may experience difficulties to ejaculate. To support these males in their journey to parenthood, the main methods available are Vibroejaculation and Surgical Sperm Retrieval.

During Vibroejaculation, a strong vibrational device supports males to ejaculate. Once semen is retrieved, there are two main methods that may support a potential pregnancy, in home insemination and/or IVF (in-vitro fertilisation).

A couple should always contact a specialised health professional to have their health checked and monitored during the process, especially males living with an SCI above the level of T6 as ejaculation can trigger Autonomic Dysreflexia.
